While Director of Exhibitions for Gallery 1.1.1. at the University of Manitoba’s School of Art, George Swinton organized the first solo exhibition of works by an Inuit artist, Tiktak (Tittak) from Rankin Inlet. The show, which featured 50 works from collections across Canada, was held at Gallery 1.1.1. at the Faculty of Art at the University of Manitoba in 1970.

A catalogue for this exhibition may be found with the published and bound secondary materials donated by George Swinton which form part of the collection of the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Clara Lander Library.
A large number of images depicting works by Tiktak are described with the series ‘Image Study and Research Collection’. (The images themselves are held variously in boxes PHO 14, 18, 19, 21 and 22.)
